15 mins of drama.

Today i witnessed how frail life can be.

I was on my way back to hall, waiting for the bus 143 at the chinatown bus stop today when it all happened. It was peak hour, around 6pm like that. There, in the middle of the bus stop, an elderly man in his 70s appeared to have fallen and was tended to by one of the police on duty in that area. A crowd had already formed and being the kay poh me with nothing important on my hands i crowded around to take a look too.

The policeman, a malay in his early twenties called for help over his radio, crouched down to the old man and tried to "attend" to him. Notice the " " s because he was simply rubbing the old mans hands and tried to commute to him which obviously was futile cos

1) He's a malay and the other's a chinese so there's probly the language barrier
2) The fallen man's probly unconcious.

With so many public eyes looking at him, the constable appeared calm and collected. He then "appeared" to take the elderly's pulse while looking his watch.. while doing all this, he managed to keep the crowd back so as to give the old man more air.

I must really applaud him. I mean how many of you will noe what to do if some elderly just fall in front of you and besides calling the ambulance and the police, will noe what to do next? For one, i certainly dun noe.

After what seemed like eternity, the paramedics arrived. Being the professionals they immdiately set to resuscitate the old man. Their actions were big and hurried and the old man's body seem so frail under their CPR and pumping etc. I wondered if the old man could take it all.
After injecting some drip, and doing the "heart electro-shocking thing" they hurried him off.

Within mins, the drama had ended. And the onlookers dispersed. Where the old man lied fallen and was desperately being wrestled fr the jaws of death, pple now stood over. Unaware of the drama that happened 10 mins ago. Only that little patch of blooded where the old man had bled fr the drip needle remained. But oblivious to the anxious crowd who were standing overit, waiting for their bus home.

Such grave feelings in my heart.
